Scholarship Program: Youth & Community Development

Growing Hope, Building Futures

At the Sumatra Project, we believe that real change begins when young people are
given the chance to dream, learn, and lead. Since 2010, we’ve supported dozens of
children and teenagers in Sungai Pinang — from 7 to 18 years old — helping them stay
in school, pursue their passions, and believe in their future.
Some of them have already graduated. Others are still on their journey. But every single
one of them carries hope — and we believe they will grow into local leaders who care
deeply for their environment and their community.

What We Provide

Our scholarship is more than just financial aid — it’s long-term support and belief in a
young person’s potential. It includes:

School Expenses

School expenses: such as tuition fees, uniforms, and school supplies

Skill-building Activities

Skill-building activities: English classes, environmental education, eco-tourism, leadership, and digital literacy

Hands-on Experience

Hands-on experience: scholars take part in real conservation and community projects alongside local and international volunteers

Guidance and Mentorship

Guidance and mentorship: we walk side-by-side with them — not just as teachers, but as family

Why It Matters?

In many coastal villages like Sungai Pinang, young people often face a tough choice: to
go to school or to start working to support their family.
We want to remove that choice.

We want them to know: you’re not alone — there are people who believe in you, and
who want to walk this journey with you.
